Connecting to the RDS on a non-University device

If you want to access the RDS from any computer not owned by the University of Birmingham, we recommend the following:

  • The University provides a Remote Access Service which allows you to connect from off-campus. This avoids the risk of accidentally copying data onto a non-University computer. (See KB15185 for details.)
  • Within the Remote Access Service please launch ‘Remote Desktop’. This will open a new window logged in as your University user account.
  • In the Remote Desktop window please follow the How do I mount (map) the RDS on Windows? instructions.

If you need to transfer data from your personal computer directly to the RDS you can install Globus Personal Connect on your computer to create a local endpoint. See the BEAR Data Transfer pages for more information.
